PHOTOS: World Architecture Festival 2016 awards shortlist

More than 50 UK projects have made it onto the World Architecture Festival 2016 awards shortlist, leading the charge among 42 nations to be included.

Eminent firms from 58 countries were featured, including Zaha Hadid Architects (UK), Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (UK), Ingenhoven Architects (Germany), Studio Gang (USA), Nikken Sekkei (Japan); Turenscape (China); and Studio Milou (France) were included.

The UK has the biggest number of projects on the shortlist this year (56), including Foster + Partners’ Crossrail Place at Canary Wharf and the Royal Court Theatre Liverpool by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.

Turkey and Australia also boasted a significant presence on the list, featuring 28 and 25 projects respectively.

Judges this year include David Chipperfield, Ole Scheeren, Manuelle Gautrand, and BIG’s Kai-Uwe Bergmann will select winners from across 32 categories.

One project will go on to win the World Building of the Year title, and another will be named Future Project of the Year.

The awards will be presented at the festival, which will run from 16 to 18 November at Arena Berlin Germany.
